Easy being green

About three months ago I was sitting in my sisters kitchen drinking too much rioja and eating wotsits, half listening to the conversation that she was having with her friend about the evils of modern food, and Jamie Oliver being a godlike man with an annoying wife. Yadda yadda yadda....

But a couple of the things that Miss Oliver II commented on started to bother me... the main one being all the hormones that are pumped into our meat to make the chickens and pigs get fat, and eaten by us in record time. Could these hormones be one of the reasons that kids today are getting fatter and maturing quicker? It makes you feel a wee bit queasy to be honest... and until it becomes acceptable to eat babies - what a waste!

So, as I travelled round Europe for five weeks eating fresh fish and pasta (and drinking too much local wine), I decided that when I got home I would go as organic as I could, without becoming a total twat.

Firstly I ordered a box of organic vegetables to be delivered to me every Friday. Its all very exciting, as the vegetables change with the seasons and I am having to learn to cook (and like) all manner of green things. The company I use is called Abel & Cole - try them - they are cool as hell.

Then I made sure that most things I bought from the supermarket were organic (especially the meat). It helped when I found:

...and of course...

...Now, I just need to have a word with my local pizza place...

Fan-bloody-tastic...you can just live off tea and chocolate and if people start to lecture you just shoot them a withering look and say 'No No it's organic'..Ace!

It's definitely worth doing Daisy. I always try and get free range organic meat - it doesn't bear thinking about the conditions some of the animals are reared in. Waitrose is really good for that.
We've also started growing veggies in our little courtyard garden. Rocket, lettuces, tomato's and fresh herbs. It's very rewarding...apart from when the slugs get them.

Hello lass! Welcome back. If you're committed to Organics and healthy eating then get yourself an organic, free range butcher. There are many out there that will deliver.

I use Abel&Cole too and absolutely love the excitement of Fridays, opening up the box and going what the HELL is that?! I've tried so much new stuff now that probably wouldn't even be available in my local supermarket.

I know - I've learned to make soup and I love not having to even bother with the fruit and veg section at the supermarket. Its excellent!
