Happy first birthday...
I just bought a Noddy card with a big '1' badge on it for my friends
little boy and now I am trying to work out the message I want to
include. Should it say:
To Boy
Happy First Birthday
Love Daisy
Or should it say....
Dear Boy
I wonder if you will ever read this card? I wonder if one day you will
find an old box in the attic with a yellowed cardboard lid and you will
read this and wonder who on earth this woman was, that cared enough to
send you a card when you became one....
I'll be much older of course - 49 when you are at uni with the world at
your feet. My eyes will be pale blue by then like my mothers, not
dark... I will have more than 10 white hairs.
I wonder. Will we ever really have met?
Happy birthday dear little boy who will never be my friend, because we are a whole generation apart.
You can change the world now little one - I'm just happy to live in it.

And I have friends that are 1/2 my age. Just hard for you to see that now when the boy is just 1. But in just a few years he could end up being a very bright, clever, fun little guy to be with who will grow up to admire you, have secret crush on you, and think you are among the wisest of the wise. |
